Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
December arrives with its familiar mixture of joy, anticipation, and holy wonder. The lights begin to shine a little brighter, the music grows a little sweeter, and our hearts turn once again to the miracle at the center of this season: that God Himself stepped into our world to bring us hope, peace, and salvation.
In the midst of busy calendars, school programs, travel plans, and Christmas preparations, it can be easy to feel pulled in a dozen directions at once. But the heart of Advent invites us to pause—to breathe—to remember that Christ comes to us not in our perfection, but in our need. Just as the shepherds heard the angels’ song while standing in the ordinary fields of their lives, so Christ meets us right where we are.
This month, I invite you to make room for moments of quiet expectation. Open Scripture every day. Offer a prayer of thanks for God’s blessings. Look for someone who could use a word of encouragement or a simple act of kindness. These small practices prepare our hearts to receive the joy that Christmas proclaims. And what joy it is! The child born in Bethlehem is our Savior, our Redeemer, and our eternal King. He brings light that no darkness can overcome. He brings hope that cannot fade. He brings forgiveness that restores our hearts and our relationships. Only Jesus can give such gifts.
As we gather for worship throughout Advent and Christmas, may the message of the angels echo anew: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased.” My prayer is that each of you experiences that peace in your homes, in your families, and deep within your hearts.
