Scriptural Foundation of Mission

Emmanuel Lutheran Church and School believes that we have been “blessed to be a blessing”  to others (Genesis 12).  We believe God’s love is for all peoples and nations and so we exist to share it and be a blessing to our entire community.  Our Mission is to help the people on Maui to Believe in Jesus Christ … and we seek to accomplish this by Loving, Educating, Sharing, and Serving them. The power to accomplish this mission comes only through God’s Word of Truth and the two sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper which Jesus Christ instituted to give His grace, strength, and forgiveness to all.

Genesis 12:2

The Lord said, “I will bless you so that you will be a blessing.”

Numbers 6:24-25

“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.”

2 Corinthians 13:14

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

2 Peter 3:18 – May you “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”

BELIEVE

Acts 16:31 – “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

LOVE

1 John 3:18, 4:8 – “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth … Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7, 16:14 – “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things … Let all that you do be done in love.”

EDUCATE

Deuteronomy 6:6-8  – “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.”

2 Timothy 3:16 – “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”

Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

SHARE

Galatians 6:2 –“Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

Ephesians 4:28 – “Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.”

Matthew 28:18-20 - "Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

SERVE

Mark 10:44-45 – “Whoever would be first among you must be the servant of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

1 Peter 4:10 – “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.”

Galatians 5:13 – “Do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”
